What are fiberglass pins for?

The need for dental restoration is a problem that every person faces sooner or later. At the age of 20, we hardly think that we will need the services of a dentist soon, but, meanwhile, from this age, the slow degradation of teeth begins, which ultimately leads to their destruction. But what if the first signs of tooth decay have already appeared?

Restoration of teeth is carried out by different methods – everything is individual here. Materials in the process of restoration can also be used different, but there is one of them, which today shows itself in the field of dentistry as efficiently as possible – this is fiberglass. It is absolutely safe for humans, does not cause rejection and quickly takes root in the oral cavity, which is the reason for the great popularity of fiberglass pins.

Benefits of using

Fiberglass posts are thin rods, the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the tooth canal. They are used not only in the restoration of a destroyed tooth, but also in the process of filling. Meanwhile, the material itself is as strong as the tooth’s own dentin or its root. All this leads to significant advantages of using fiberglass posts in dentistry:

  • the minimum number of complications – fiberglass pins provide a reduced load on the tooth, so they take root better;
  • ease of work with the material – the pin is easy to install and remove, which requires less time for the procedure;
  • good aesthetic properties – the material does not corrode and does not lose color, it is invisible under a crown or filling.

Fiberglass pins are actively used in adhesive prosthetics and in preparation for restoration using crowns. Pins help to preserve the roots of even very damaged teeth. As a result, prosthetics are cheaper.

Indications and contraindications

Fiberglass post is a dental material that is being used more and more. Especially without it you can not do in the following cases:

  • in the presence of damage to the walls of the tooth and the need to strengthen them;
  • when installing composite crowns;
  • in the upcoming treatment, for which the strength of the tooth is especially important;
  • if you are allergic to metals.

Of course, fiberglass pins also have contraindications for use, although there are few of them:

  • infectious processes of tissues around the tooth;
  • gradual destruction of the tooth root and the formation of multiple cysts;
  • diagnosed diseases of the nervous and circulatory system.

In addition, for some dental problems and disorders, a fiberglass post simply cannot be placed – for example, if the tooth walls are too damaged.

Fiberglass pins are a full-fledged competitor to standard ceramic and metal counterparts – they are just as effective and last for a long time, because the chewing load on the restored tooth is evenly distributed. And the price of installing a fiberglass pin is quite affordable.
