How to choose the right toothpaste

Most people do not pay enough attention to the choice of toothpaste. Few people read the composition of the product, and even less often people consult their dentist about this. Meanwhile, the health of the oral cavity largely depends on the quality and literacy of the choice of paste. Contrary to popular belief, the quality of a product in this case is determined not by price or brand, but by whether it fits your teeth or not.

Types of toothpastes

Most often, pastes are classified according to the type of action. There may be several options here:

  1. Hygienic. Used daily and suitable for people with healthy teeth;
  2. Therapeutic and prophylactic. They have a complex effect and contribute to the treatment and prevention of inflammation of the gums, caries and other diseases;
  3. Therapeutic. They have active substances in the composition and are used only if there is an appropriate prescription from a doctor. It is not recommended to buy medical pastes at your own discretion – this way you risk making your teeth worse.

Many do not know, but the color of the strip on the tube matters. According to it, you can understand the ratio of natural and synthetic components in the product. There are four colors in total:

  1. Green. Exclusively natural composition. Usually a green stripe can be found on hygienic and prophylactic pastes;
  2. Red. The composition is optimal in terms of the ratio of components. The risk of an allergic reaction is minimal;
  3. Blue. More than two thirds of the composition are substances of chemical origin. Pastes with a blue stripe have an intense effect. Can be used as a primary or secondary hygiene product;
  4. Black. Completely chemical pastes. In most cases, they are curative and are used only as directed by a doctor.

In addition to the strip, you should also pay attention to the composition. For different types of teeth and different ages. The presence of fluorine in the composition is desirable, since this substance is responsible for strengthening the enamel. Also, the paste should not contain components to which you are allergic. If there are no complaints about dental health, you can choose hygienic or preventive pastes with a green or red stripe. Blue pastes are used mainly as an additional care, but black ones should be resorted to only after consulting a dentist.
