Periodontal disease (periodontitis, parodontosis) is the second most common group of dental diseases. The prevalence of this problem is confirmed by the allocation of a whole section in dentistry – periodontology.
The periodontium includes gums, blood vessels, connective and bone tissue, provides nutrition to the tooth and alveolar process, and fixes the tooth in the hole. Inflammation of periodontal tissues – periodontitis – affects about 90% of adults in the world. The insidiousness of periodontal pathologies is that most often they are asymptomatic, without causing pain. Therefore, some patients seek help when the pathological process is running, the teeth are loose and sometimes it is not even possible to save them.
Until recently, the treatment of periodontitis was reduced to curettage and excision of pathological gingival pockets, splinting of loose teeth, but today there are innovative methods of hardware treatment that allow avoiding surgical intervention. One of these methods is treatment with the help of the Vector ultrasonic device.
“Vector” is a device, the principle of which is based on the use of ultrasonic waves to remove soft dental deposits and tartar from the surface of the teeth and from under the gums. It differs from other devices by the ability to regulate the amplitude of ultrasonic waves and non-contact effect on tissues. All this allows for a deeper cleansing of the oral cavity without damaging the mucous membrane. The device “Vector” is widely used for the prevention and treatment of periodontal pathologies.
Periodontitis is known to be caused by bacteria. And the ideal environment for their reproduction is created by factors such as:
- Poor oral hygiene: the more careless you brush your teeth, the higher the risk of developing inflammation.
- Tooth stone. If you do not carry out professional cleaning of your teeth in a timely manner, plaque formed from bacteria and their metabolic products hardens and causes a violation of the integrity of the tissues adjacent to the tooth.
- Hormonal disorders, vitamin deficiency, weakened immunity.
- Bad habits – smoking, chewing tobacco.
- Excessively hard food, loose filling or crown, use of a hard toothbrush.
In a word, everything that contributes to injury to the gums and maintaining the vital activity of bacteria leads to the development of gingivitis, and subsequently purulent periodontitis.
Traditionally, gingivitis and periodontitis in the early stages are treated conservatively, sometimes with simultaneous surgical intervention. In the second and third stages of periodontitis, treatment is based on the excision of pathological pockets. That is why many patients put off a visit to the dentist.
To avoid such a scenario, at the first signs of pathologies of the soft tissues of the oral cavity, you should seek the help of a specialist.
During therapy with the Vector device, ultrasonic waves of a certain frequency (25 kHz) act on the tissues. The movement of the waves is not multidirectional, as in other devices, but is directed along the long axis of the tooth (that is, vertically along the vector) thanks to a special tip. This greatly minimizes damage to the root surface of the tooth. Ultrasonic treatment with the apparatus “Vector” allows you to remove all food residues, dental deposits and clean the inflamed periodontal pockets from pus. For this, a special solution is used – a suspension that contains hydroxyapatite and calcium phosphate. These particles are abrasive and ensure the removal of hard dental deposits and polishing of the bare surface of the root.
When is it appropriate to use Vector?
The initial stages of periodontitis are characterized by the presence of periodontal pockets with a depth of no more than 6 mm, above and subgingival dental deposits, gingival recession and exposure of the necks of the teeth, slight bleeding of the gums and tooth mobility. With such a clinical picture, the use of the Vector device is indicated.
It is not recommended to use this technique for the treatment of periodontitis if the dentist detects deep periodontal pockets with purulent discharge and a serious degree of tooth mobility. In this case, surgical treatment is indicated. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, diseases of the cardiovascular system and tumor processes are also a contraindication for treatment with Vector.
Benefits of treatment with the Vector device
The undoubted advantage of the use of the device “Vector” in periodontology is its complex effect on the tissues of the oral cavity. Under the action of ultrasound, microcirculation in the vessels of the oral cavity improves, nutrition is restored in the cells of the mucous membrane, signs of inflammation of periodontal tissues are eliminated. Ultrasonic waves do not cause pain and do not injure tissues: gentle non-contact treatment does not require anesthesia. Among other things, “Vector” has a beneficial effect on enamel, thereby reducing tooth sensitivity.
