Removal of a wisdom tooth in the lower jaw

Situations where the removal of a wisdom tooth in the lower jaw is required are not uncommon. According to research, the eruption of “eights” in almost 80% of cases is associated with certain problems.

This complex includes the following services:

caries and its consequences (pulpitis, periodontitis, flux, osteomyelitis, etc.)
inflammation of the soft tissues of the gums (pericoronitis)
malocclusion, crowding, or decay of teeth due to improper positioning of the “eight” in the jaw
the formation of neoplasms near the roots on the lower jaw, which is very dangerous and requires the removal of a wisdom tooth
dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint
permanent injury to the buccal mucosa (threatening with a malignant tumor)

Difficulties in removing a wisdom tooth in the lower jaw

The bone structure of the lower jaw is more dense than that of the upper jaw. This creates a lot of obstacles in order to simply pull out a tooth. Removal of the 8th tooth from below with forceps is in most cases impossible, since it is difficult to grab and swing it normally, especially when the crown has not been cut through completely or has been badly damaged by caries.

In addition, third molars have an unpredictable number of roots, which, in turn, can be curved at different angles. It also makes it much more difficult to extract a tooth in the lower jaw.

In some people, the “eights” even grow horizontally, and then they are not visible at all on the surface. This pathology is clearly visible on the x-ray. And then the only possible option is the complex removal of the wisdom tooth in the lower jaw, which may require sawing the bone.

Complications after removal from the lower jaw

Unfortunately, after such an intervention, especially if a lying wisdom tooth was removed on the lower jaw, complications are possible, because a rather large wound surface remains in the oral cavity. Typical problems faced by patients:

heavy bleeding
gradually increasing pain
alveolitis – inflammation and suppuration of the hole
swelling of the gums and cheeks
