Is ice cream bad for your teeth? About the benefits and harms of your favorite summer treat

Summer, hot, so you want to cool off and enjoy ice cream … How often can you use it and what should you be afraid of? They talk about the dangers of ice cream no less than about its benefits.

Natural ice cream contains minerals, vitamins A, D, E, P, B vitamins, and even the amino acid L-tryptophan, which calms the nervous system. Fruit ice cream is also rich in vitamin C. But it should be remembered that ice cream, especially ice cream, is a high-calorie product, so people who are prone to fullness, and with a high level of cholesterol in the blood, are allowed to use it no more than once a week. There is another reason why you should not abuse the delicacy – caries. Ice cream and popsicles contribute to the appearance of microcracks in the enamel of the teeth, which, in turn, lead to caries. It is very harmful to bite ice cream! Such “cooling” threatens with the appearance of caries on the front teeth. Patients with sensitive enamel should be especially careful: if pain occurs when eating ice cream, you should immediately consult a dentist and, possibly, take a course to strengthen the enamel.

To avoid colds, some patients prefer to enjoy ice cream with hot tea or coffee. This method will really save the throat, but it will be extremely dangerous for the teeth. Temperature fluctuations “accelerate” the existing inflammatory processes and can lead to pulpitis. Finally, care must be taken with patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Due to the same temperature difference, braces can come off. This is not scary and can be quickly fixed, but it will require an urgent appeal to a specialist.

But do not rush to get upset! There is a way out, and it is quite simple. Do not consume ice cream immediately after purchase. Wait just a few minutes, eat it soft, in no case bite.
