Many foods that we eat daily contain biologically active substances that help strengthen tooth enamel and improve the general condition of the oral cavity. This is what dentists from the American Dental Association have come up with. They urged the public to take better care of their teeth, to eliminate bad habits and eat products that are good for enamel. Dentists reported that teeth are very badly damaged due to the habit of chewing on ice, sweet candy or cough drops.
By doing this, you risk causing injury to the tooth, making a chip or crack in it, as well as provoking the activity of dangerous bacteria. In addition, as experts say, some types of sweets can be extremely harmful to dental health. We are talking about marmalade, dried fruits, caramel and dragee, stuck in the teeth. It is also not recommended to abuse sports drinks, fruit juices, etc.
At the same time, representatives of the association also named a number of useful products that really help in strengthening tooth enamel and improve the state of microflora in the oral cavity. They made a rather long list, which included such products:
- Dairy. Milk and cheese, yogurt, sour cream and other calcium-rich dairy products;
- Greens and almonds. These foods have been cited as the best plant-based sources of calcium;
- Eggs, fish, meat and poultry. There is an increased content of phosphorus;
- Sweet potatoes, carrots and all the same fish as sources of vitamin A;
- Green tea. It contains components that strengthen tissues and protect them from inflammatory processes.
Naturally, all this does not mean that you should eat exclusively these products. However, including them in your diet while following the basic rules of hygiene will significantly improve the condition of your teeth and oral cavity.
