Stomatitis in a child

Stomatitis is the general name for diseases of the oral mucosa. Such diseases can have a different character, and depending on the causes of occurrence, the symptoms may appear different, but most often these are inflammations in the tongue, gums, cheeks and throat. Accordingly, inflammation on the tongue is called glossitis, and on the gums – gingivitis.

With stomatitis, a person develops sores in the mouth, redness, and sometimes bleeding, in addition to all this, there is a burning sensation and pain in the affected area.

Most often, stomatitis occurs in children, as a result of various factors, such as: allergies, infections, injuries, etc. In infants, stomatitis can occur as a result of teething.

Older children are also susceptible to this disease, especially those who like to try everything “by the tooth”. Very often, the husk from the seeds, or the peel from the fruit, enters the oral cavity and forms an ulcer. Parents very rarely pay attention to what is in the children’s mouth, and in most cases of stomatitis, the children themselves complain to their parents about pain in the oral cavity. Also, children without adult supervision can try vinegar or alcohol, from which they will develop inflammation, which also causes stomatitis.

Many infectious diseases can manifest as stomatitis. For example: diphtheria, scarlet fever, measles. In a word, everything that happens in the body will be displayed on the oral cavity. With diabetes, gingivitis and periodontitis will appear. With cardiovascular diseases, the gums become bluish in color.
